Advice for candidates completing the application form

Please ensure you study the job description and person specification so that you can refer to the specific skills and qualities that we are looking for when you complete the application form. Any CVs sent with the application will be disregarded.

Your personal statement is a key section of your application form. This section is where you must demonstrate how you meet the criteria listed in the job description and person specification. Your statement is used by the shortlisting panel to assess how well you have demonstrated your suitability for the role.

We ask that you provide evidence and specific examples in your application. You can use examples of your experience and knowledge gained from your current and previous employment, voluntary work or education.

We value transferrable skills, so if you do not have direct experience in the role that you are applying for, we encourage you to provide examples that can meet the requirements from other areas of your working, volunteering or personal life.

The STAR method can be used to structure the examples you provide on your personal statement.

  • Situation – describe the situation and when it took place
  • Task – explain the task you were given to do
  • Action – provide details about the action you took
  • Result - conclude with the result of your action and what you learned from the experience

Changes to our recruitment process during COVID-19

WDP has a duty of care to ensure that we conduct our recruitment process in a responsible way that protects everyone involved.  Therefore all of our face-to-face interviews are currently suspended, and we will be conducting all interviews online via videoconference until further notice.
