What we do

Innovation and Research Unit

We are a dedicated unit at WDP tasked with:

  • Developing innovation and research projects that enhance evidence within the addictions field
  • Improving service delivery
  • Improving practice across the sector.

Our unique position

The Innovation and Research Unit (IRU) is unlike any other research organisation or unit as we:

  • Have a multidisciplinary team - the IRU consists of staff from across the organisation, including Senior Management Team, Business Development, Operation Managers, Team Leaders, Recovery Practitioners and those with lived experience.
  • Bridge the gap - we bridge the gap between academia and service delivery, ensuring that our expertise is a key driver in the development of research, policies and guidance that dictate how services should be commissioned and delivered.
  • Are partners and independent researchers - we support external researchers in designing and implementing their projects as well as conducting our own in-house projects.
  • Develop innovations - the unit also designs and develops innovative projects and pilots, with a particular focus on digital technology
